Overview

Victorian Britain provides motivating support for Key Stage 2 history and literacy. It has two components: Virtual Burton CD-ROMs and Victorian Britain Online (online stories on a linked website)

Virtual Burton evokes the sights and sounds of Victorian Burton. Based on detailed research of real people, various characters will take you on a tour through the town as they go about their daily lives.

Using the same characters that you have met in Virtual Burton, Victorian Britain Online uses a story based approach to explore different perspectives of life in 1881.

Main Features

Virtual Burton

  • 450 buildings have been accurately computer modelled to provide a faithful reconstruction of Burton-upon-Trent as it was in 1881.
  • The characters provide answers to a range of questions to help you understand what life was like in 1881.
  • Photographs and information about certain aspects of the town are provided, including comparisons of 1881 to the present day.
  • The exceptional graphics will make an immediate impact with your class when you explore Virtual Burton using an interactive whiteboard!
  • A second CD-ROM contains an extensive learning resource for teacher and pupil use.

Victorian Britain Online

  • You make choices and decide the outcome of the stories - excellent for whole class or group work using an interactive whiteboard.
  • Each story has a narrated version so that children can work at their own pace on a computer.
  • Share ideas and develop new stories with the online community.
  • Fun, relevant activities are incorporated within the stories to keep children engaged.
  • Teacher's notes and Framework links save your planning time.

Victorian Britain Online also gives you access to a resource base that contains objects, people and places to enrich the stories.
